There’s nothing better than a tropical vacation, but many of us don’t have the time due to busy work schedules and lives that seem to get in the way. Walk in ZanzibarAustin. A tropical-themed bar and restaurant in downtown Austin that might convince anyone to vacation in Cabo. The restaurant opened almost two years ago in September 2020 at the Marriott Hotel and is known for its authentic ambiance and tasty bites.

Zanzibar restaurant ambiance in Austin

Before arriving at ZanzibarAustinthe guest is greeted by a host and an elevator to street level, filled with lush greenery and an illuminated neon sign with the words “We’re leaving”. When the elevator arrives at the seventh floor, guests are greeted by a tropical-themed paradise. Placed in the center of downtown and decorated with beautiful greenery and flora, the views seem to never end. Comfortable sofas and seating areas await as the Zanzibar experience is just beginning.

Zanzibar Austin Menu

Living up to the holiday experience, Zanzibar’s menu is full of tasty cocktails and small bites you’d find at a beach resort. Let it be the classic Mai Thai or the infamous Zanzibar trade winds, the refreshing taste is always worth it. Another must-have is the Zanzibar Swizzles which features rum, hibiscus, ginger, allspice and lime in a chilled masterpiece. In addition to drinks, Zanzibar serves delicious bites such as a shrimp skewer and the Kahuna Burger. Whatever Zanzibar serves, a tropical taste is expected.

Brunch from Austin to Zanzibar

If you are a brunch lover, Zanzibar is the place for you. Every Sunday, Zanzibar offers tropical mimosas as well as small $7 bites for those looking to spice up their brunch. What if you want to escape the heat? The Resort Pass allows guests to experience the poolside service and luxury cabana that only a tropical paradise can promise.

With a cabana by the pool and breathtaking views, the food served lives up to expectations.

Grilled Pineapple Salsa and Salmon Poke Bowl are two dishes so refreshing and island-inspired, it’s hard to believe you’re not really on vacation. Plus, Jerk Chicken Wings and Pulled Pork Sliders are a spin on the unbeatable American classics.

Austin dinner in Zanzibar

Not an early riser? The Zanzibar dinner menu is an expanded menu of what they serve during the day and a tasty treat to end your day. The hand-rolled sushi is perhaps the most eye-catching item on the menu, starting with the BCR Wagyu which contains nori, red onion, radish, carrot, bell pepper, avocado , unagi and toasted sesame. Or even the Citrus Salmon Roll which contains teriyaki and sweet onion that captivates those unique flavors. Another menu item is the Duck Egg Rolls which also seem to be a popular item at the restaurant.

If you’re not in the mood for a cocktail, Zanzibar offers a wide range of wines and an extensive beer list. The beers are made with many Austin locals, true to the restaurant’s Austin roots. Zanzibar also offers two soft drinks with hibiscus and ginger that will give the same tangy flavor as the famous cocktails.

Location + opening and closing hours

Zanzibar is located at the Downtown Marriott at 304 E. Cesar Chavez Street, Unit 700 on the corner of San Jacinto and Cesar Chavez. At the entrance, the elevator is located at street level, where a host is waiting to check you in and take you to the restaurant on the seventh floor.

Its opening hours are Monday to Thursday: 4:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., Friday and Saturday: 12:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. and Sunday: 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Looking for the same experience at a lower cost? Zanzibar happy hours are Monday to Wednesday from 4pm to 6pm.

Zanzibar Austin Booking Process

Zanzibar website has reservations tab that allows the customer to book easily. They are busiest on weekends, but booking availability is never too limited.

Zanzibar Austin Online Ordering Process

Zanzibar does not advertise online ordering on its website, as it is partly an experience-based restaurant, however, GrubHub and other online food delivery services do offer the food delivery in Zanzibar.

Which makes ZanzibarAustin so unique is its ability to make the guest feel like they are in a tropical oasis, despite being located on a rooftop in the middle of downtown Austin. Although there are only seven floors, the restaurant takes you to a place that makes you feel like you are somewhere far away, where you are served delicious cocktails and bites to match the ambiance.

Although it is a little overpriced, in Zanzibar guests are paying for the holiday experience which is too rich in opportunity to pass up. After all, I think everyone deserves a little vacation.
