The online portion of this year’s Welland Food Drive is live and ready to go.
The website of the annual event, www.wellandfooddrive.com, was activated about two weeks ago and is currently receiving donations. The food drive is also resuming its traditional program of having food donations picked up by home volunteers.
Organizers are asking people to leave contributions on porches and at the end of walkways by 10 a.m. on Nov. 5.
Financial donations can be made through the event website.
There will be a “limited” number of volunteers accepted for this year’s drive, as the event team is aware of the COVID-19 pandemic when donations are brought back to Auberge Richelieu.
There are 85 routes through the city, each run by a team of around four people. Many of these groups are already “established,” said lead organizer Monique Finley, expecting most to return for the food drive, which is always held on the first Saturday in November.
However, the three recipient organizations (Salvation Army, The Hope Centre, Open Arms Mission) will need volunteers to help sort food after collection.
Food drive organizers ask interested individuals to contact these organizations directly.
To make arrangements with The Hope Centre, email [email protected] or call 905-788-0744, ext. 228.
Open Arms Mission can be reached at [email protected] or 905-788-3800.
The Salvation Army will accept volunteers by email at [email protected] or by phone at 905-735-5700.
