The Londoner Hotel Reviews, Leicester Square, London

The neighborhood / area

From Leicester Square non-stop, stroll through the narrow streets of Soho and come to the junction of Oxford Street and Regents Street, or head the other way to Covent Garden – all are within walking distance from the ‘hotel. Stroll the alleys and stumble upon quirky shops and foodie hot spots, or take the tube and stroll through one of London’s pretty green parks. With so many world-famous London landmarks nearby, including Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square and the National Portrait Gallery, there is never, ever a quiet moment.

The service

The staff are on the ball. Every corner you turn, there is someone to greet you. Speak to the stylish concierge to book dinner reservations, taxis, and advice on where to go and what to see nearby. They will remember your name and if it is raining they will provide you with a Mary Poppins style umbrella.

For families

Kids are welcome, with 28 suites that can comfortably accommodate a cot, restaurants with high chairs, and specific hours so the little ones can enjoy the pool without spoiling the zen moment for the grown-ups at The Retreat.

Eco-effort

The Londoner is at the top when it comes to eco-effort. It has secured a £ 175million green loan from HSBC UK and ranks in the Excellent category with BREEAM – the world’s leading sustainability assessment method for project, infrastructure and building planning, and by equipping them with the most efficient boilers, coolers and fans. Walk around and take note of the green initiatives – from lighting and temperature control systems that go into sleep mode if no movement is detected to minimize waste, with every room having refillable Nordaq water bottles that are filtered and bottled on site. The elevators at the hotel are manufactured by Mitsubishi with the latest technology to save energy, and it is possible to check in without contact using a mobile key. Not only does this mean you can skip the line and go straight to your room, it also cuts down on the use of plastic key cards – a win-win situation.

Accessibility for people with reduced mobility

There are 18 accessible rooms with walk-in showers, sinks with handrails, and shower seats that can be set up if needed. Two of the 18 rooms also have a rail hoist for people with more complex disabilities. Wheelchair-accessible toilets have been installed on each floor, with a Change Places room in the Odeon cinema to accommodate those who need a changing table and a height-adjustable sink.

Nothing to report?

If it’s the big bars and entertainment space that appeal to you, don’t miss The Residence 24-hour club, accessible only to hotel guests. Nibble on appetizers and down a few martinis in this exclusive extension of your room. And take a look at the seven private meeting rooms on the ground floor of The Gallery as you explore – each room is named after a famous London gallery, including Somerset House and The Royal Academy.
