Jared and I had a little weekend getaway to Fort Worth and usually when we go to Fort Worth we stay with my parents so we can bring Beau. This time we stayed at the Kimpton Harper Hotel in downtown and it was by far the BEST dog friendly hotel in Fort Worth. As well as being super pet friendly, it was also super unique, beautiful, and quite affordable! Let’s take a closer look!
The Kimpton Harper Hotel Review
The Kimpton Harper Hotel is right in the heart of downtown Fort Worth (about one block from the Convention Center and two blocks from Sundance Square). This hotel is unique because it has character, charm and also history. This building was the historic bank for farmers and mechanics before it was transformed into what is now Harper Hotel.
The rooms were very spacious and almost felt like an apartment with a separate living room and bedroom. The furnishings were also warm and comfortable instead of your traditional stuffy hotel furniture. The art and gallery walls really gave the impression of being inhabited and elevated. I almost felt like I was in an apartment with all the amenities of a hotel.
By far my three favorite things about The Harper were …
1. The bed: HOLY COW These were the most comfortable beds I have ever slept on… even better than my bed at home!
2. Bathrobes: I’m a fan of hotel bathrobes and this little detail made all the difference! It was so soft and comfortable. Perfect for slipping into a nap before dinner (I know, I did).
3. The bluetooth speaker in the bedroom: This is a small detail but it is often a problem when traveling. Jared and I always sleep with a sound machine at home, so when we travel we have an app that we activate, but it can be quite difficult to have it on our phones as the volume and sound quality are different , so playing through the speaker this was exactly what we needed!
Okay, aside from the optimal sleeping experience, the Kimpton Harper had other great accommodations as well.
As I mentioned, the hotel is VERY pet friendly, so much so that I saw at least 10 other groups with dogs checking in or walking around the hotel. The most important thing I find is that some hotels say they allow pets but give you outrageous pet deposit or special pet friendly room options. The Harper has NO pet deposits (no matter what size / weight or how many pets you bring) and even has fun puppy amenities like door hangers alerting other guests to the hotel. hotel and staff that your cat, dog or other beloved pet is in the room and courtesy bags to walk your dog. Pets are welcome everywhere in the hotel and everyone was delighted to see Beau. They are even welcome at the free happy hours which take place daily from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with free beer and wine!
Beau definitely endorses The Kimpton Haper!
As I mentioned, the Harper has a full service bar on the 24th floor with a spacious and comfortable lobby. They have a free happy hour every day, but it’s also a great intimate place to spend the evening or go out after dinner! Everything upstairs looked like a picture straight out of a West Elm catalog!
Plus, The Harper has free bikes you can buy to ride around the city center! It was such a unique perk that I had never seen before and it was really perfect for navigating downtown!
Il Modo at Harper
To fully enjoy the experience, we had dinner at Il Modo, located inside the Harper Hotel. We were able to make it a night out and two of the couple’s best friends joined us. Not only was the food and drink amazing, the service was amazing. We originally made our reservation for 2 then extended it to 4 then they so graciously accommodated our party of 6 with ease. It is a very intimate restaurant and would be perfect for a romantic evening.
Il Modo is known for its freshly made pasta and everyone was delighted with its exquisite menu. My favorite thing we ate was probably the Burrata with Cherry Apricot Mostarda on Toasted Sourdough. Overall the noise level was pretty quiet which was perfect for all of us to catch up on. In my opinion, there is nothing worse than a loud restaurant where it is difficult to hear the person next to you!
They also had freshly made pasta hanging on the wall which was super fun but also made for the perfect photo spot! You can also sign up for pasta making classes at Il Modo.
Il Modo also serves breakfast if you want to grab a bit during your stay at Harper!
Overall our stay at The Kimpton Harper was absolutely delicious. From late check-in to friendly accommodation with Beau to delicious dinner and the optimal sleeping experience it was a 10 out of 10! The Harper opened in June 2021, so now you can be one of the first people to stay at this hidden Fort Worth gem and bring your pup!
