Restaurant Review: Beachside at Buoy’s in Bay St. Louis MS

Beachside at Buoy’s is a new restaurant inside Buoy’s Bar on Beach Boulevard in Old Town Bay St. Louis.

Buoy Bar in Bay St Louis is a standard beach side in the old town.

But there is a new addition inside the popular nightlife spot. Buoy’s Beach is a must see hamburger spot.

Chef and co-owner Joseph Castoro has been in fine dining for 20 years, but he finally decided to go solo and cook the food he always wanted to make. Beachside offers stunning views of the bay, a patio that offers both covered seating and parasolized tables – and an upstairs patio as well – plus indoor dining. It’s breathtaking a striking orange and blue and I love the cool, funky vibe.

And with some of the best burgers and poboys I’ve had in a long time, and this might just be my new hangout in Bay St. Louis.

I found Beachside at Buoy’s on the restaurant’s Facebook post featuring their meatloaf po-boy. I’ve eaten a ton of po-boys and I love a good homemade meatloaf too, so combining the two felt like the po-boy that was missing in my life. Diane Stevenson and I made the trip a few Sundays ago.

I ordered the meatloaf po-boy, which was just as good as I had hoped, and Diane had a chili cheeseburger, potato salad and okra. She immediately described her entree as an “elite old school burger” and it was amazingly good, but so was everything else. The chili was just right, and I haven’t had a better potato salad.

We spoke to co-owner Michelle Beauregard, and she told us everything was being done from scratch. The burger is a hand-made one-third of a pound patty, then grilled to perfection.

Okra came from Joseph’s family in Thibodeaux, Louisiana, and to tell you the truth, I generally avoid restaurant-made okra, but this one was good and had all the attributes that a good homemade okra should. . It was one of the best meals I have had in ages.

The menu is on a chalkboard near the window that overlooks the small kitchen and where you place your order. There is no table service here, but the service was prompt and your meal will be ready to be picked up in about 15 minutes. The menu is small, which I always like. This means the chef knows what he’s good at and that’s all that’s served. You will find a few burgers, a po-boy, okra, chili, chicken wings and a wrap. The menu changes often.

Diana and I visited on a beautiful fall day and both said Beachside at Buoys was at the top of our beach side joint list. It was cool, awesome, there was a great view and some great views.
