Hotel review

Paramount Hotel Midtown, Dubai – Business Traveler

Background: This is the second Paramount hotel in Dubai. It opened in March this year and, according to its staff, has been close to full capacity on several occasions since then.

How does it look? The reception on the ground floor serves as a welcome area for customers. They are then taken in an elevator to the lobby on the 14th floor. The lobby features images of famous Hollywood stars, including Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn, in addition to a life-size statue of Charlie Chaplin. Marble floor and golden highlights, as well as a beautiful floral arrangement in the center
space, keeps the experience classy.

Where is he? It is located less than two minutes drive from the Dubai International Financial Center. It takes less than 10 minutes by car to reach other sites such as the Dubai World Trade Centre, Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall and La Mer. Located just off Sheikh Zayed Road, it is also a short walk from the station from Business Bay Metro.

Rooms: There are 281 rooms and suites that offer views of the Burj Khalifa or the coast. The suite we stayed in – Premiere – had a view of both as it was along the side of the building. Her living room opened onto a balcony that ran the length of the suite. Floor to ceiling windows meant the whole suite was well lit during the day. There is a large flat screen TV in a wooden cabinet in the living room and another in the middle of the bedroom. The marble bathroom with José Eber toiletries has a free-standing bathtub, rain shower and vanity area. The well-appointed suite also had a king-size bed and a desk. Room service is fast, and the men who came to fix a technical problem with the TV were dressed in Tom Cruise-inspired clothing. Superior gun overalls.

Food and drink: There’s L-Café in a corner of the lobby and it’s a great place to wait while you check in. There’s the bright and airy Cinescope Restaurant open all day where a continental breakfast is served with regional specialties. The highlight of the hotel’s F&B offering is the Tuscan Paparazzi gourmet restaurant on the 14th floor. It hosts a Friday night brunch with a menu not to be missed. It features live music, dim lights and an exquisite chandelier in the center of the room. The menu includes a delicious olive tapenade crostini, crispy calamari, creamy spinach ravioli and possibly one of the best tiramisus we’ve tasted in town. The restaurant excels in presentation – we’d be surprised if the Michelin inspectors didn’t already have this restaurant on their radar.

Company: The 15th floor houses a modestly sized business center. There are four meeting rooms which can be configured to accommodate up to 150 people. In keeping with the property’s Hollywood theme, the hotel refers to meeting rooms as “business studios.”

Hobbies: If you want to stay in your room itself, the TV offers Airtime – an entertainment programming platform that offers several paid and free content – including, of course, Paramount Pictures releases. Elsewhere on the property, there’s Pause Spa which has collaborated with French brand Chateau Berger. There’s also a kid’s room and a gym, but the highlight of the property has to be the pool that almost wraps around the hotel’s rooftop on the 64th floor. The infinity pool offers breathtaking views of the Burj Khalifa, the coast and the skyscrapers along Sheikh Zayed Road.

Verdict: If the first Paramount hotel to open in Dubai was a big-budget production, consider the Midtown property an arthouse production – it’s smartly designed, accessible to those on a more modest budget, but has an equally captivating storyline with a twist in the plot – in the case of this property, it’s that stunning rooftop swimming pool with a large separate spa bath.

Best for: Easy access to all of Downtown Dubai

Don’t miss: The rooftop pool with stunning city views

Price: Internet rates for rooms start at Dhs 520 per night and suites from Dhs 800 per night
