Local Restaurant Review – The Huntingtonian

A great recipe made Nick’s kitchen worth a visit.

Huntington owns a local restaurant called Nick’s Kitchen, which has been operating at the same location at 506 North Jefferson Street, since 1908. Although they serve a variety of things from breakfast to lunch to dinner they are proud to be the home of the Breaded Pork Tenderloin Sandwich, a recipe they have used for over 100 years.

This sandwich comes in two sizes: original and mini. Don’t be fooled by the name though; the mini breaded pork tenderloin sandwich is still quite big and the tenderloin alone can cover at least half of the plate. The original is even larger, able to cover more than half of its plate, which is itself larger, and extends far enough beyond the bun that it will take at least a bite or two to reach. something other than pork.

As well as being quite big, the sandwiches are also delicious. There is certainly a reason why they have kept the same recipe for over 100 years; this is a good recipe. The only thing I want is for the sandwich to come with a side dish. The mini comes with a side if you get it as a lunch special. The menu also has a “shareable” section, which can be treated as entrees, sides, or both. These ‘to share’ are also very good, ranging from standards like fries and onion rings to coleslaw and mozzarella sticks. And if you can finish it all and still want dessert, they also serve delicious pie. Some of the more popular flavors are apple, black raspberry, and blueberry sour cream.

Regarding the non-food aspects of the restaurant, the service was excellent. The waitress was kind and attentive, answering all questions. Food was also brought in quickly. While it wasn’t as fast as fast food, it was faster than a lot of sit down restaurants.

The place also looks like a 1950s restaurant. The walls are lined with local history, from old photos of the railroad to exhibits about the locals themselves. All in all a place with good food for a fairly good price and it has a nice atmosphere as well. It is definitely a good place to have dinner with friends, or maybe when family comes to visit us.
