what it likes?
The hotel is all about understated luxury. The driveway leads to the hotel entrance where the staff quickly help you check in. Temperature controls and disinfection stations later you are in the great hall. It was raining when I arrived and I was delighted to spend the next day exploring this iconic Mumbai hotel. There is Atellier, its banquet room that can accommodate up to 100 people on the ground floor. Two elevators take you to accommodation, restaurants and other areas.
Or is it?
Directly on Marine Drive, overlooking the Arabian Sea and the Marine Drive promenade. If you have been to Mumbai before, you have definitely passed through this hotel while driving through South Mumbai.
The hotel has a total of 59 rooms and suites, the majority of them overlooking the panoramic sea view. IHG Clean Promise is the hotel group’s signature initiative that guarantees high standards of cleanliness and sanitation during your stay.
The room categories are – Standard rooms and suites. I stayed in this lovely bay view suite which overlooked a spectacular view of the Queen’s Necklace, the Arabian Sea, part of the main road and a few buildings – which in my opinion makes the view par excellence of Mumbai. The best part was that the view extended over the living room and bedroom area which were laid out in a very distinctive L shape, giving the impression of a more open space.
TThe bathroom, in black marble, a separate tub and shower with two sinks and a sliding door, was quite luxurious. Agraria San Francisco toiletries have been provided. There are minimal design details that exude the spirit of Mumbai and the headboard of the bed is quite high, adding another touch of luxury to the suite. The sofa and the blue-tufted living space sits by the window – a perfect spot for morning coffee or breakfast.
Food and drink
I was delighted with the specter of F&B at this hotel. Unfortunately his Indian Kebab Korner outlet was closed when I visited, but room service offered restaurant dishes as room-service meals.
After checking in, my lunch was at L&S (Long & Short) where I enjoyed pasta (penne) with tomato sauce and garlic paprika. The flavors were quite authentic and the taste of the sauce was just right. I also had iced tea with lunch. In the evening, I made my way to its rooftop lounge – Dome – known for its exceptional sea views, white-themed vibe, and patio doors. I had a good French Malbec and soaked myself in the sight in front of me.
For dinner and breakfast I chose room service. The first was a decadent assortment of Indian dishes made from kakori skewers, truffle cheese kulcha, black daal, and butter chicken – an absolute feast for the soul and the senses. The next morning for breakfast I ate avocado on toast with orange juice and cheese.
In addition to the aforementioned Atellier, the hotel is also home to Onyx, a newly furnished banquet space for up to 100 people with state-of-the-art facilities.
The hotel only offers in-room spa facilities which unfortunately were closed during my visit. A choice of aromatherapy is offered to each guest upon arrival. On the next level after Dome is his swimming pool which was also not operational due to Covid standards.
Verdict: Ideal for a break from the mundane or to switch from a working atmosphere at home to a very contemporary and sophisticated atmosphere.
