Hotel Reviews: Velassaru, The Maldives

[ad_1]

The Maldives, a collection of coral islands in the Indian Ocean southwest of Sri Lanka, offer promise of crystal clear blue waters, endless white sand beaches and an escape from the noisy bustle of the world.

Velassaru, a luxury resort with five restaurants, an overwater spa and a marine center, serves up everything promised and more, offering an enchanting island experience just a 25-minute boat ride from the airport. Male. World-class diving and snorkeling is on offer here, along with privacy and peace, and even at full capacity, crowded beaches are a world apart at this secluded resort.

Review of Velassaru

Rooms and facilities

Accommodation on the island includes a variety of self-contained rooms or suites, located on land or over water. The island is small, so even the most “inner” rooms are seconds from the sea. The beach villas have doors leading directly onto the beach and the overwater villas have direct access to the sea , some even have private infinity pools.

I stayed in a beach villa, nestled among palm trees and greenery. Rooms are spacious with high ceilings and large beds, and have minibars, wine fridges, and coffeemakers. Bottles of still water from sustainable sources are refilled daily. There is a private deck overlooking the ocean, and private lounge chairs are attached to each bedroom.

My absolute favorite feature of these rooms is the beautifully oversized semi-outdoor (but completely private) bathroom. Featuring both a large tub and indoor shower, the knockout for me was the outdoor shower. Surrounded by tropical plants and eight-foot walls, I spent a disproportionate amount of time here, soothed by the cascading waterfall shower as I gazed up at the blue or starry sky above.

Food and drink

The resort has five restaurants and two bars offering a wide selection of cuisines, including Asian and Mediterranean-inspired dishes. Room options include breakfast only, half board, and full board.

For the ultimate experience, I would recommend the Velassaru indulgence package – a food and beverage upgrade package that allows you to dine at any of five restaurants on the island and includes a wide variety of alcoholic beverages and soft drink. Upgrading to this package offers the added benefit of free daily access to sea kayaks and the chance to burn off excess!

Hotel Highlights

The main things on offer here are the soft white sand, the perfect weather and the stunningly beautiful sunsets; but for those looking for more than long days lounging by the sea, there’s also a luxury full-service spa, a variety of water sports, and a coral reef teeming with fish but just a short paddle from the beach. beach. All guests are offered free snorkel gear, free boat cruises, and sunset yoga sessions every three weeks on the beach (an absolute dream).

What to do nearby

Velassaru keeps all its promises when it comes to the Maldives. Its motto might be “no filter” because wherever you look in any direction you will find picture-perfect landscapes and incomparable hues of blue. It is not a place where you are asked (or feel inclined to) “do” anything. Just being here is enough to reach a state of absolute happiness.
