A delightful boutique hotel that will leave you wanting more.

Located on one of the warmest Greek islands, St. Nicholas Bay is a secluded oasis of paradise overlooking the beautiful Gulf of Mirabello in the Cerulean Sea, within walking distance of Agios Nikolaos town.

From the moment you step off the plane and step into your 1-hour private limo transfer, St. Nicholas will captivate you. The hotel’s legendary Cretan hospitality doesn’t go amiss, as they ensure that every aspect of your stay is a dream. If you are looking for a destination that leaves you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated, look no further.

Rooms & Facilities

The hotel reopened in February after a stylish site-wide refurbishment and now has 119 rooms (including 33 with private plunge pools if you fancy an extra touch of indulgence). Or why not splurge on one of the eight on-site villas (enjoyed recently by Andrew Castle, one of the few celebrity guests to have adored a stay here)?

There are also plenty of new additions for the summer, including a new teen club, children’s nature area, outdoor gym, dining experiences and an athletic 25-metre outdoor pool. We recommend booking an early morning yoga session at the new yoga pavilion.

The rooms are bright and modern with classic, calm colors, wooden floors and spacious marble bathrooms.

YOU stayed in a sea view room with a large king size bed positioned on the private veranda; perfect for catching the sunrise. We watched the sun as it peered over the horizon, listening to the sound of the waves crashing below, all from the comfort of our fluffy white sheets.

There are a plethora of restaurants to choose from at the St Nicolas Bay Hotel. The Club House offers a huge selection for breakfast, including delicious Cretan pastries, endless bowls of Greek yogurt with fresh fruit, a juicy fry, detox and vegetarian options – or perhaps a choice of breakfast. A slightly odd lunch like smoked chicken can tickle your taste buds. The Blue Bay Restaurant overlooking Mirabello Bay is perfect for a light lunch; you’ll find Mediterranean and Asian dishes as well as a selection of fresh fish, sandwiches and hearty salads, where a side of grilled prawns is a MUST (we ordered a second helping!)

In the evening, the Blue Bay Jetty bar transforms into a relaxed cocktail bar by the water. Sip a sparkling sangria while watching the last rays of the sun dance on the waves.

If you love entertainment, then Kafenion Greek Restaurant is for you. With local hospitality, Cretan cuisine and live folk musicians and dancers every Wednesday, they are sure to charm you and make you dance to this recently devoured grill kebab.

For a more intimate setting, head to Minotaur, the resort’s signature poolside gourmet restaurant offering innovative Asian and international cuisine. With a glass of rose in hand and the golden orange sun setting behind the palm trees, you can stretch out and relax to the sound of a pianist playing every night. Don’t miss the catch of the day for the freshest, meatiest fish we’ve ever eaten!

Hotel Highlights

Most guests like to lay quietly off here – by all means, doze off to your heart’s content on one of the many loungers. But if you feel like getting active, you can enjoy a selection of excellent water sports suitable for the whole family, including waterskiing, windsurfing, canoeing and paddleboarding (we recommend taking a paddleboard board first to enjoy the calm, morning waters all to yourself).

There are also daily active excursions to explore other parts of the island. Perhaps a trip to the beautiful historic island of Spinalonga, which you can reach in a short boat ride and can be booked from just €60.00 (this may vary depending on whether you want a private guide and for how much of hours).

The highlight of YOU was a glorious hike (just under a 3 hour round trip, 4km long) through Krista Gorge; a spectacular natural feature just outside the beautiful town of Krista. With a breathtaking canyon entrance, you will truly feel immersed in its awe-inspiring surroundings. Take plenty of water and be sure to wear sturdy shoes as you will literally be scrambling over rocks (don’t worry, it’s not too difficult). Book from €39.00 pp at reception.
