Nestled in a quiet and private setting on the beautiful island of Majorca, away from the hustle and bustle of those all-too-common (and busy) resorts, you will find Zoëtry – a luxurious countryside getaway away from the hustle and bustle of life where you can rest, relax and enjoy the pleasures of life on board the boat.
No longer the youngest of whippersnappers, I tend to lean towards quiet and classy as opposed to loud and lively when it comes to summer vacation. Don’t get me wrong, I love adventure, but an outbreak of punching the last pool lounger or nudging the eye while ordering a drink in a crowded bar isn’t usually my thing. Cup of tea.
On the rare occasions when I travel alone, I want peace. I am talking about a real, complete and total peace, felt in the air. From the moment I walk into the hotel lobby to the reluctant closing of my bedroom door for the last time, I crave a whopping zero stress level. Even with the seemingly endless selection of charming luxury hotels and resorts, that kind of stress-free experience is pretty hard to come by. Step into Zoëtry, one of the least stressful hotels I’ve had the pleasure of visiting.
Part of the AMR Collection with sister properties in the Caribbean and Mexico, Zoëtry’s intimate getaways combine distinctive culture, heritage and natural beauty, which is evident the moment you step out of the car and gaze up at the mansion’s arched entrance. .
The 14th-century Spanish mansion turned resort has 90 beautiful suites and rooms spread across immaculately manicured grounds. From gorgeous private hideaways in the main building with views of the neighboring neo-Gothic chapel and windmill, to sophisticated poolside villas, the five-star resort has the perfect space for everyone.
The spectacular vine-covered interior courtyard is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the hotel’s wow factor; whether you’re taking a leisurely stroll through the winding botanical arcades, lounging peacefully by one of the two crystal-clear swimming pools, having a drink at the Coto cocktail bar or dining al fresco under the moonlight , you will not miss luxury in Zoétry.
I don’t know about you, but I like a hotel that had a past life. Knowing how to stay in a place steeped in history makes everything even more enchanting, and you can’t turn your head at Zoëtry without feeling the intrigues of the past.
All rooms have been restored to preserve their architectural charm and authenticity, and the wealth of luxury of the 14th century mansion shines through. Each room, suite, and villa offers plenty of space, stylish decor, modern amenities (think Nespresso machines, fast Wi-Fi, and smart TVs), and private terraces with views of the Spanish countryside, historic chapel, or the gardens.
The interior design is a combination of rustic luxury and subtle comfort; completely stylish and fully functional at the same time – a perfect pair if you ask me. Choose from a variety of large (and I mean large) suites such as the Exclusive Villalonga Suite, the resort’s most impressive accommodation with exposed beams, high ceilings, dining area and luxurious bathroom; or, stay in the Double Speaker room, with a private patio overlooking the warm tones of the Mallorcan countryside.
Food and drink
Dinner at Zoëtry is exactly what I dreamed of; the photos on their website aren’t just good angles and smart marketing – what you see is what you get, and what you get is wonderful. The interior of the main restaurant is impeccably decorated with neutral colors, rich woods, cream fabrics and dotted with earthy pottery, wicker baskets and glass to create a truly relaxing atmosphere.
The outdoor dining area is even better, with tables either hidden under a fabric-laden canopy or out in the courtyard to catch the last rays before the sun sets behind the courtyard walls.
Zoëtry’s cuisine is nothing short of exquisite, blending infusions of traditional Spanish cuisine (with a touch of Mallorcan heritage, of course) and modern organic Mediterranean flavors. I recommend the Majorcan goat cheese toast with caramelized onion, honey and sobrasada (Majorcan spicy sausage), or if you fancy, the lobster thermidor is divine. By the pool, you can enjoy a variety of freshly prepared meals at lunchtime – perhaps grilled sardines with a squeeze of lemon or a tomato and burrata salad.
Breakfast is what breakfast should be in a luxury hotel – an extensive buffet of delicious breads, pastries, cold cuts, fruit (oh, the fruit!) and a yoghurt bar with every topping imaginable. And yes, a cooked breakfast of your choice is included – from benedict of the day to brioche French toast, you’ll never run out of new options to savour.
But wait, let’s not forget the drinks! The four bars of the Zoëtry offer a bit of everything, served fresh and brilliantly. Try a signature cocktail, sip a refreshing Spanish beer or you can’t go wrong with a sun-chilled Aperol Spritz. For the ultimate holiday experience, don’t miss a visit to the Cotó cocktail bar, with live music every night. Think of a dreamy Spanish guitar under the moonlight. Absolute happiness.
Spa and wellness
Zoëtry Mallorca’s Pure Spa is the icing on the cake when it comes to relaxation. The classy inner oasis is the perfect place to relax and spend the day. The heated swimming pool, with its many massagers and water jets, is surrounded by comfortable loungers and is the perfect place to start. Then take your pick from the eucalyptus-scented Turkish baths, saunas, ice fountains, foot bath, aquadome or sensory shower – or, if you’re feeling wild, try them all. End your day enveloping yourself in the aromas of lavender, lemon, honey and almond as you let yourself be carried away by an expert massage.
In my humble opinion, Zoëtry is the kind of place where you go to hang out, take a hard-earned break, sit down and read a book, enjoy a cocktail and let your body and brain rest. But if you fancy a day trip, Palma is only 20 minutes away by car, with its beaches, attractions, bars, restaurants and nightlife.
For your dose of history and architecture, visit the Catedral de Mallorca; for crystal clear waters and soft sand, head to Calo Des Moro beach; or, for food, drink and fun, don’t miss La Lonja in Palma, a maze of winding streets filled with cafes, bars and restaurants with music galore and a great atmosphere.
In a word
For an escape from it all with all the wonders of true Mediterranean hospitality, and more peace and relaxation than you can imagine, Zoëtry is second to none. Only 20 minutes from Palma de Mallorca airport, even getting there is stress-free, and the rooms, restaurants, bars and pools are just what the doctor ordered for an enjoyable, stress-free vacation at the Sun.
Rooms can be booked from €200/night on a bed and breakfast basis.
