Hotel Review: The Guardsman, London

In the heart of Westminster, on Buckingham Gate, lies a brand new hideaway, perfect for a romantic getaway or a luxury city break in the UK’s capital. With all the charm, finishes and furnishings of a private club, but without the pretension or the waiting lists, The Guardsman Hotel is the perfect place to get away from the busy streets of London to relax and rejuvenate. .

The Guardsman Hotel Review

Rooms and facilities

Our room was modern, with touches of classic British heritage design. It was really private but with lovely views over the streets of London. For the gadget junkies, there were touch-sensitive light switches, blue-tooth sound systems, underfloor heating, a chrome-plated cast-iron TV and more, all with modern mechanisms. But it’s not at the compromise of sustainability: the hotel uses 100% renewable energy to supplement the solar panels installed on the roof!

The highlight of the room was the bathroom. Marble and gold finishes, a huge freestanding bathtub and an optional dividing wall allow you to enjoy all the benefits of the spacious bedroom or opt for privacy! It really is the perfect way to take a moment out of the hustle and bustle of the city and relax.

Food and drink

Location wise you have an array of bars and restaurants on your doorstep, but if you feel like staying put there is a lovely bar and restaurant downstairs. As well as not having to leave the hotel, the restaurant is exclusively for hotel guests, which is a real luxury in the heart of bustling London. The menu is simple, comforting and doesn’t feel the need to impress you with countless unpronounceable ingredients. Along with the British classics on offer, it has a fabulous wine list to complement it – highly recommend the Sancerre!

Hotel Highlights

The staff was great and always ready to help, unobtrusive but efficient. Let’s face it, breakfast in bed is always a treat, but at The Guardsman, they’ve taken that to the next level. The linens are crisp and very comfortable and the breakfast was delicious. Served with a sunny view in the heart of London, it truly feels like a true escape. The crepes, both fluffy and crispy, were truly fantastic.

What to do nearby

With Westminster, Buckingham Palace and a variety of museums and attractions within walking distance of the hotel, the possibilities for nearby activities are endless. For example, we went to the Saatchi gallery to discover their latest exhibition. There’s something magical about being a tourist in your own town and the pace of life really slowed down for a day at The Guardsman.
