Hotel Review: Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort

A luxury oasis in paradise with an ambience and facilities to impress.

Luxury meets durability and comfort at the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort. This 5-star resort has impressive facilities, friendly staff, Instagram-worthy views and spacious rooms.

I was invited to stay at the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort for 2 nights by Tourism Tropical North Queensland (TTNQ). It exceeded my expectations and is a great place to stay whether you are traveling alone, with family or friends.

The 5-star Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort is at the more expensive end for accommodation in Port Douglas, but when you take into consideration the facilities, location, and luxurious atmosphere, the price is justified.

You can save by booking a garden view room instead of a lagoon view room.

If you are lucky, you may be able to get one of the garden view rooms with a limited view of the water.

You can expect to pay between $499 and $1,100 for a room at the resort, depending on the room type.

If you are traveling in a group, it may be cheaper to book a 3 or 4 bedroom villa.

The location

Located just off Four Mile Beach and about a 5-minute drive from downtown, the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort has a prime location whether you’re planning a day at the beach, want to hang out in town and grab a bite to eat. piece, enjoy a day trip to the Great Barrier Reef or explore the Daintree Rainforest.

Although the journey to the city center is short, it takes about 40 minutes on foot.

There is a courtesy bus you can call to pick you up and take you to town, but there is no carpooling in Port Douglas so hiring a car can be a convenient option.

The decor

When you enter the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort through a long driveway, you are greeted in paradise with lush green gardens and palm trees everywhere you look.

Renovated in 2016, the resort has a modern feel but there are still recognizable touches from the past.

The lobby has high ceilings and is spacious, a common theme around the resort.

White, black, cream and brown accents fill the room to give it a modern feel.

The large windows let natural light flood the room and the light wood flooring opens up the space even more.

The check-in/check-out process

As I was checking in as a TTNQ guest, the reservation was under a different name and I had to wait a little while for the receptionist to confirm the reservation.

While I waited, I was kindly offered a seat and some refreshment.

After this little bump, the check-in process was quick and the receptionist was friendly. Before going to my room I was given a map of the resort which was helpful as the premises are large and there are lots of great facilities scattered around that I would not otherwise have known about.

Checkout took a bit longer, but that’s probably because I left at 9:30 when everyone else was leaving too.

Nonetheless, the process was quick and seamless once I got to the front of the queue.

Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort bathroom

The luxurious atmosphere of the exterior of the resort and the lobby extends to the bedroom.

My room was spacious, bright and stylish with 2 large windows overlooking the lagoon pool. There was a breakfast nook in the corner of the room, perfectly positioned facing the pool and palm trees.

The marble bathroom was stocked with Gilchrist & Soames shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel, as well as small toiletries including toothbrushes, toothpaste, a manicure kit, and a sewing kit.

For added luxury, bathrobes and slippers were also provided in the wardrobe.

The room was fairly clean but there was a bit of mold on the bathroom vent and the mini fridge was leaking leaving a pool of liquid next to it.

The resort staff were friendly so if I had asked for a room change I’m sure they would have been accommodating. The person I was traveling with didn’t have any issues with their room, so it’s possible it was only once.

The Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort emphasizes sustainability and offers you the chance to skip housekeeping in exchange for a $10 voucher to use at select resort restaurants and bars.

This is a great resort run incentive that I have never seen anywhere else before.

Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort Go to the Beach

The facilities and amenities at the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort are excellent and you would be hard pressed to find any other accommodation in Port Douglas that offers the same level of restaurants and facilities in the same location.

Should you decide to spend your entire stay in Port Douglas at the resort, you’ll have everything you need close at hand. From simple things like having multiple restaurants to choose from, to more unique features like having a golf course located at the front of the resort, the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort caters to all types of visitors.

I really enjoyed having Four Mile Beach right on my doorstep. It was one of the main assets of the station.

I watched the sunrise from the beach one morning while I was there and it was both a peaceful and scenic experience as there were only a few people scattered on the sand.

With over 2 acres of lagoon pools to swim in, you can choose your favorite spot and rent one of 25 cabanas to relax or hang out in different areas of the pool throughout the day.

A big plus of having so much space to swim is that the pool was never crowded and there was plenty of room to move around if an area started to fill up with people.

The pool bar is a great place to relax with a signature cocktail or local beer in hand if you want a livelier atmosphere.

Cold water stations are located around the complex which is a good idea as you can refill your water bottle before a day trip or before heading to the pool or tennis court.
