Fresh Produce Friday 624: Gold Leaf Edition

Eee… I don’t know about you but there seems to be an inordinate amount of leaves on my lines all of a sudden. I think the high winds last week are to blame for the new masking of existing trails.

I mostly rode “from memory” on carpets of tree droppings that were aesthetically pleasing but interesting for traction. Still, those are all great test times for suspension forks and winter tyres, aren’t they? That’s what I keep telling myself anyway as I get up off the ground once again.

Either way, here’s this week’s fresh produce for you, and only you. Because it was half term, a ten year old was duly commissioned and required to take (most) pictures this week.

Atherton AM.130.1

Atherton Bikes may have taken a while to launch as a full-fledged bike brand, but 2022 has truly been their breakthrough year, it seems. They’ve been running the AM.200 for quite a while. The AM.150 trail bike was released earlier this year (you can read our First ride of the Atherton AM.150 here).

And now we have this bike. The 130mm travel Atherton AM.130. Diet Trail Bike? Double Down Country? Just a mountain bike? Either way, it’s definitely one of the most unique bikes currently available. This particular model is the AM.130.1 with a reach of 490mm. It weighs 14.53 kg (on our digital scale of truth and justice), which we think is quite good considering that it has very sturdy tires. We estimate it could come in at under 30lbs with a pair of less chunky rubbers. It’s something we’ll no doubt find over the next few weeks of testing and tweaking.

Pivot Firebird 29 Ride SLX/XT Air

They are like buses these stunning DW Link pushbikes. Okay, technically Pivot and Atherton use totally different DW Link layouts. But still, it feels a bit like the good old days of the 2000s when every other bike seemed to bear the fingerprints of Dave Weagle.

This Firebird 29 then. Yes, it can be shredded to run a 27.5-inch rear wheel if you’re a mustard enthusiast. 165mm rear travel. Fork travel 170mm. Super Boost 157 rear. 64.6° head angle. 76.5° to 77.5° seat angle (depending on frame size). Range from 450 mm to 515 mm.

This one has already been swiped from Singletrack’s headquarters and taken to our remote tester’s Lakeland lair. Stay tuned.

I am [Benji] will run one on the back of my blessed NS Eccentric Alu Evo hardtail. I hope to allow myself to release the beans with a little more confidence when testing mud tires and 130-140mm forks. I’ve used other inserts, but always come back to CushCore for “ardcore” ardtailing.

Fizik Terra Artica GTX Boots

Terra Artica GTX is Fizik’s all-terrain winter boot. Insulated and fitted with a GORETEX ‘Koala’ membrane, the Artica GTX is fully waterproof, meaning you can rely on its proven performance to keep you dry when it matters most.

Inside the shoe is a soft brushed fleece lining for an extra cozy layer. The Velcro strap secures the ankle in place, while the unique L6 BOA dial allows for micro-adjustments.

Ride Concepts Vice Mid

In our overview of flat pedal shoes earlier this year, Hannah really likes the usual Ride Concepts Vice shoes. So we have the highest Vide Mid builds for fall-winter bashing.

RC Fuzion outsole hexes vary in diameter from 9mm to 7mm at the pedal contact area. D3O High Impact Zone Technology insole. Suede/canvas upper. Antibacterial mesh lining. Internal TPU toe protection. Gusseted tongue.

Birzman Uncage side pull bottle cage

The design allows assembly according to left/right hand (unscrew and move the bolted cap from one end to the other essentially). It is also possible to attach Birzman’s range of tools/spares/repair kit to the end of the cage if desired. Suitable for bottles with a diameter ranging from 72 mm to 78 mm and a length of 250 mm and less. We’ve encountered them on a few test bikes before and have always loved them. 62g, if you mind.

I Heart Singletrack Wonky Women’s Organic Tie-Dye T-Shirt

Charlie says, “Say ‘straight up, straight up’ to our new tie-dye t-shirts.

“These are wonky shirts. Much like wacky vegetables in a supermarket, these have a slightly twisted and flippant angle in the “I heart Singletrack” print. However, Amanda, Zoe, and Hannah disguised the kink with a glorious color. Yes, these are hand dyed, hand dyed in Singletrack laps. Each one is very unique and very cool.

“The handmade stuff is great. But I’m confused, I was given hand-cooked chips this week. What temperature do your hands need to be to make the chips crispy? Using a fryer is surely easier.
