Blessingdales needs an HVAC unit | Local

DECATURE — Blessingdales Thrift Shoplocated at 345 W. Eldorado St., Decatur, needs the public’s help to replace the store’s HVAC system.

The shop is operated by God’s shelter of love, which uses proceeds from the store to fund Decatur’s only shelters for homeless women and children. Dove Inc. also operates a women’s shelter, but for victims of domestic violence.

Blessingdales provides 55% of the shelter’s operating and program revenue.

“Without our services, many of these women and children would be left vulnerable on the streets, and we cannot, as a community, allow that to happen,” said Brian Atwood, Chairman of the Board. “The reality is that supporting Blessingdale means the women and children of Decatur sleep safe every night.”

Watch now: Very hot in central Illinois on Wednesday, but exceptionally hot in southern Illinois

According to the agency, Blessingdale’s HVAC unit broke down due to last month’s heat wave. The cost of a new system will be over $57,000.
