The Classics #4: Virtua Fighter 2 for SEGA Saturn was an Arcader’s Dream

Virtua Fighter 2

Oh, Sega Saturn, you had some great games while you lasted. Virtua Fighter 2 back in 1995 was a pleasure to play back in that time. We’re talking even less pixels since the SEGA Saturn released back in 1994, though it’s an arcade game with snappy music, characters that all have something unique about them.

Kage was always a favourite of mine (what can I say? I like Ninjas) though Shun was always a funny drunken man. Leon’s got the best fighting style as you’ll see in the video below.

The game was simple with modes and only featured arcade mode, versus and training – though these were the modes you only needed since fighting was addictive and at that time, making combos was something of a miracle. I still don’t know how I got Kage to do a flip from edge to edge of the arena and deal some serious blow; if anyone knows, let me know.

Though Virtua Fighter has had many titles since then with Virtua Fighter 5 during the PS3′s launch and the schedule Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown arrive soon, Virtua Fighter 2 will always have a soft spot. Sound off in the comments if Virtua Fighter 2 is a title you remember! Well, that’s it for Classics weekend, stay tuned for more gaming news and next weekend as we continue The Classics Series. Till then!
