Sony’s PlayStation Plus subscription based membership has been met in its first year with a resounding ‘meh’. Sadly there has been no real incentive for the average-Joe gamer to fork over his cash but Sony have made major improvements as Jack Tretton announced yesterday.

Around half way through Sony’s showing they focused much more on the online side of PlayStation with news of an improved Playstation Plus but also the re-branding of PlayStation Suite into PlayStation Mobile along with the partnership with HTC. However, the major news came regarding PS Plus’ new look. Tretton announced that members will be receiving over 12 fully fledged recent releases for completely free, including hits such as InFamous 2 and Saints Row 2. Sony hope that these fruitful treats from PS Plus will tempt gamers over to their paid service.

Tretton also promised a new plethora of features but did not go into much detail, obviously holding out for the later months. To help kick-start this ‘relaunch’, Sony gave every conference attendee a free years subscription which could be activated that very day. By focusing on their premium service, Sony hopes to finally match or even take over Xbox Lives superior service.
