PS4 Reveal Event – The New Games

So did you watch it?
Sony just held their Playstation 4 announcement event and it certainly impressed with a solid set of specs powering the console as well as a plethora of new IP’s, returning franchises and brand new developers.
Whilst there was no physical copy of the PS4 on show we did catch a glimpse at the new controller and the background for Sony’s increased online connectivity. However, the real star were the games that were announced, so here they are!
Killzone Shadowfall – Guerilla Games are once again delivering another intense looking Killzone experience to the PS4 in the form of Killzone Shadowfall. Based in a time when Helghast are rising to power again with an army of super-powered soldiers, Killzone Downfall presented us with a tantalizing glimpse of a bolder, futuristic and more colourful inclusion. Oh, and the demo was simply gorgeous. If the PS4 can consistently produce this level of visuals, we are in for a ride!

Drive Club - Developed by Evolution Studios, Drive Club is a team-based racer that differs from Evolutions Motorstorm series. Instead of insane off-road racing, Drive Club is said to revolve around team challenges, drawing comparisons to a FPS squad shooter. Similarly, the game is said to be presented from a first person perspective as well as featuring Gran Turimso beating intricacies and detail. The PS4 needs a racer and it looks like Drive Club is filling that spot.
InFamous Second Son - Sucker Punch revealed their PS4 title, InFamous Second Son. Seemingly leaving Cole McGrath behind, Second Son looks to follow a group of super-powered ‘mutants’ in a new totalitarian regime (which when teased sounded a lot like Watch Dogs!). Second Son’s trailer showed a brand new protagonist with brand new powers – smoke. If InFamous Second Son arrives as a launch title then Sony would have done well; the series is a massive hit on PS3!
Deep Down - Only under a working title, Deep Down is a new dungeon crawler developed by Capcom. Although the only information was a pre-rendered trailer, the Skyrim-esque skulking featured dark caves and dragons – a recipe for success! Deep Down will be running on Capcom’s new engine, Panta Rhei. If you are a fan of the Demon Souls series, it looks like Deep Down will be for you.
The Witness - Announced to a slightly confusing discussion about open worlds, The Witness is a new puzzle game set in a bold and bright island with what looks like 4 distinct areas. The trailer showed a collection of maze like puzzles, think Snake, which opened up new areas to explore. The game world looked mysterious and with the promise of a darker story, The Witness is a game to keep an eye on, especially with its Vita-appealing features!

Knack - Much like The Witness, Knack is a cartoony, quintessential looking game that follows the adventures of a little knick-knack robot named, well, Knack. The game looked charming with large characters and a distinctive art style. It seems that Knack will be a puzzle game too, but it may incorporate an adventure angle too. Knack could be a PS Vita and PS4 title, so the idea of cross-play is tantalizing!
