Nintendo Direct: Official Wii U Details Confirmed

Straight from Satoru Iwata himself in what just finished, Nintendo Direct, the stream as suspected was all about the Wii U. He revealed plenty of the new console which is due to be demonstrated at Nintendo’s E3 Press Conference, clearing up much more about what Wii U is. So down to the details we’ve compiled all the confirmed hardware specifications below and the software side with further articles to cover aspects in more detail:
- The Wii U supports an NFC Reader/Writer which can transfer data across that can be used within games
- Supports the Wii Remote, Nunchuk and Balance Board
- Has motion & gyro sensors
- Redesigned Wii U controller uses clickable joysticks, has more face buttons and a better ergonomic holding design
- Front facing camera
- Communicates with infrared and sensor bar
- Touchscreen display on Wii U Controller that is stylus friendly (suggesting resistive touchscreen)
- Independent use of the Wii U controller to the TV known as Asymmetric diversity
- TV & Home control button
For the software & network side:
- MiiVerse native network system – gathers system Mii’s, friend’s Mii’s and targeted Miis across the globe
- Native browser and messaging system
- Videocalling capabilities
- has built-in apps
- Screenshot capture capability
- Transmit user created content using native system
- Can transmit same content on TV with independent content feature between TV & Wii U controller
- In-game suspend/ pause system
