Nearly 800K PS Vita Units Sold Under 7 Months in Japan

Figures have dropped in for Sony’s PS Vita and it’s performance in Japan. The number of Vita’s sold came in at just under 800,000 units to date, calculating at around 115,000 units sold a month and resulting in a 28,500 average sold per week over the course of under 7 months since it’s release in December. Whilst the figures are approximates, it gives a good indication in relation to the market.
The market has been sluggish this year with Japanese consumers feeling the squeeze with their yens as the economy is still depressed. There’s no doubt that the average was significantly helped by the first week launch as we know the last couple months has been very tough for the Vita to break the market hitting a low 8,000 units sold in one week. It’s not all doom and gloom however as according to the reports, the Vita’s performance in Japan is in-line with Sony’s expectations.
On the software side, the recent release of Persona 4 The Golden boosted sales when it launched (bringing the Vita figures at 35,000 for that week) with no doubt the market more responsive to that game that’s more JP oriented. Tales of Innocence R and Gravity Daze are solid recent releases with Hot Shots Golf 6, Uncharted: Golden Abyss and Dynasty Warriors NEXT proving to be solid hits since launch.
- Persona 4 The Golden (188,782)
- Hot Shots Golf 6 (118,985)
- Uncharted Golden Abyss (89,390)
- Gravity Daze/Rush (74,785)
- Dynasty Warriors Next (74,718)
- Tales of Innocence R (71,463)
- Lord of Apocalypse (69,162)
- Ragnarok Odyssey (65,318)
- Gundam Seed Battle Destiny (55,527)
- Disgaea 3 Return (54,902)
Whilst the figures aren’t impressive, they aren’t bad either. It’ll be interesting to see how it fares over the rest of the year.
