E3 2011: Nintendo Conference Live Blog

Hello everyone welcome to the Live Blog for Nintendo’s E3 Keynote, we’ll be updating the blog as news feeds out:

[17:06] And things are underway! The conference kicks off with some Zelda music performed by a live orchestra. An opening for what is surely Zelda related – 3DS?
The video sequence is going through all of the Zelda titles to date, seeing Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker and such spanning back into Nintendo’s previous generation console titles
[17:10] The Legend of Zelda 25th Anniversary Shigeru Miyamoto – Creator of Zelda -y takes hold of the screen. A translator takes hold of translating Mr. Miyamoto. The orchestra performed the soundtrack to the upcoming game, Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.
[17:12] The orchestra is playing several notes memorable to the Legend of Zelda – opening a chest, entering a fairy fountain and getting an item (twice) – the last one going with a bang.
A Legend of Zelda title will be made on all Nintendo titles – the online shop will include Links awakening that is available today. Next weekend, Legend of Zelda 3D will launch for the 3DS. Higher framerate, improved graphics showing Hyrule nicely. Coming in september on Nintendo DSi – 4 player co-operative Legend of Zelda: four swords as a free download in the online store. Finally, Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword will hit worldwide this coming ‘holiday’ season for wii.
[17:16] Skyward Sword will see a limited edition Wiimote controller launching with the title – Gold and featuring the title logo – looks good though only shown on screen
[17:19] A Skyward Sword soundtrack CD will be given as a gift for those who register their game on the Nintendo site when it first comes out. Several orchestra and key members are brought on stage to be applauded for their work on the franchise and Symphony concerts around the world
[17:22] Satoru Iwata takes the stage and is discussing about who we play with, how we play and where we play. He’s talking about bringing a deeper game experience aswell as a wider appeal to all gamers. A tease about bringing this news later about the ‘platform’ and the crowd sighs.
[17:25] He’s talking around the subject of a new console… but he’s back to 3DS. A clip is shown which brings Kart racing in the marioworld which transitions to Starfox entering his spacefighter. Mario hits the scene with his more traditional platform. And its Super Mario Smash brothers! Luigi sucks up a ghost… Luigi’s mansion?
[17:27] Reggie Fils-Aime – President of Nintendo America now takes to the stage. The clip is hinted for 3DS release titles – first up is Mario Kart 3DS in 3D. The game trailer brings us to the familiar environments of Kart racing and powerups that make or break races; new environments to freshen things up on the 3DS. Coming this Holiday 2011
[17:31] Starfox 64 3D makes his way to the 3DS. You can utilise the tilting function to control the fighter or use hardware buttons. The Nintendo 3DS cameras record every action when against friends. Starfox 3D will be hitting US shores this Septemberr.
[17:32] Super Mario 3D is announced! A video trailer shows the 3D platforming adventure – everything in polygons. Mario wears various clothing such as a raccoon suit, alternate colour scheme featuring sidescrolling tradition or 3D camera angles.
[17:14] Kid Icarus: Uprising Pit taking on the underworld creatures above and below. You can battle up to 5 other players too with customisation for weapons. Augmented reality is implemented and will include new ways to fight using AG cards to fight. Coming this fall.
[17:37] Luigi’s Mansion 2 next up: Luigi now embarks on his own adventures on the 3DS with enhanced graphics, ghost sucking mechanics and is able to explore and roam the environments from more than a top down view.
[17:39] Let’s see what 3rd party titles are cooking up for the 3DS: Resident Evil Mercenaries 3D Mario & Sonic at the olympic Games 2012 Ace Combat 3D Tetris Cave Story 3D Resident Evil: Revelations Driver renegade, Pac Man & Galaga Dimensions Tekken 3D Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D – All are of what you can come to expect on the 3DS.
[17:41] A System update is here to provide game demos, game info and video trailers to improve the online browsing experience. Virtual console will house Gameboy and Gameboy color titles as well as console classic titles. Receive a 3D classics Excite Bike for free – a 27 year old classic.
Pokemon will make its way onto the 3DS in a different way by utilising a Pokedex 3D app via firmware – this works by finding all the Pokémon through street pass, AR scanning and the White & Black games. You can use this to find Pokémon and plant on your camera shots – all you do is update the system, FREE
[17:45] Wii U – a system tailored made to an individual – a controller is announced for Wii U! 6.2″ touch screen, 2 joysticks and other controller functions, gyroscope, accelerometer and speakers. A video is showing us what it’s about now.
Wow! The controller that has a screen will allow you to carry on playing your game if your screen is off. Draw pictures, play your system games, use it for motion controller to complement your game and get new views with the new controller. Wii U is demonstrated using Wii fit a gun peripheral, web browsing and making video calls also. Sweet. a swipe feature by flinging the photo from the controller is flung onto the screen just like that.It will be Coming in 2012. The device screen can operate with the TV (mirror like) or without – think of it like the on the go controller system
[17:51] Mr. Iwata states that the controller must not be considered as a handheld portable system – it is connected via wireless transmitting or using HDMI out. Games can you both TV and Wii U screen if designed to.
A video of Mr. Miyamoto highlights the possibilities of what the Wii U will bring.
[17:57] The crowd roars about Super Smash Brothers working for the 3DS and Wii U. Reggie Fils-Aime takes the stage again to explain more about the Wii U. A video clip shows us more about the Wii U now..
[18:01] He shows the screen utilised in a way to provide more information, different camera angles and such.
Lego City stories is announced to accompany the Wii U and the 3DS as a title. It’s an open world Lego game to traverse around in Lego blocks.
[18:03] THQ, Vicarious, Ubisoft, Warner Bros, Namco Bandai, Disney, EA CEO’s and such comment on the potential and scope for development that they can do with this ‘new console’. A video clip of games supporting Wii U and will include: Tekken, Darksiders 2, Batman Arkham City, Assassin Creed, Ghost Recon online, Dirt, Aliens: Colonial marines, Metro Last Light,Ninja gaiden 3: Raiden’s Edge
[18:10] EA takes the stage and talks more about Ea title possibilities on the Wii U platform like Battlefield 3 using the frostbite network.
