The Classics #2: Brave Fencer Musashi Still Saving The World

It’s part 2 of this weekends’ Classics – for those that can cast their minds back to 1998, Squaresoft produced an RPG called Braver Fencer Musashi. The 3D polygon game for the Playstation was a great RPG title, taking hold of the protagonist Musashi to rescue the princesses and bring peace to the land, overcoming many bosses and traversing through many towns. This was what Japanese RPG’s were about – then again, Many awesome RPG titles released around the original Playstation era, but where are they now?

Musashi was a gem amongst other gems during that time. When the design of of Musashi was still badass but not all emo-like or the current Japanese hair trends as found in today. It even featured voiceovers for the characters and had a variety of great environments to visit. Carrying his swords fusion and lumina, the search for the scrolls increased lumina’s strength and allowed him to gain new abilities. One thing I also remembered was how enemies respawned as soon as you left that scene – good for grinding, but sometimes you wished they were just gone.

Sometimes, theses games just can’t be produced in the modern era because it strives for too much detail, too much logic and too much realism. It’s games like Brave Fencer Musashi that can only be what it is in that era and that is why Musashi rounds off this weeks ‘The Classics’. Tune in next weekend end to find out what classics we’ll be looking at and the trip down memory lane. Enjoy!
